Harry Lockwood was born in 1838 and was hawking needles, thread and matches from the age of 7 or 8, Abandoned by his father who went to Australia and made his fortune, Harry was content to travel around the area collecting rags and jam jars in exchange for Salt and produce from the Midhope Potteries. This photo is taken on the road to Midhope. He was popular with children whom he would put in the sacks hanging on the cart to give them a ride.
