Description:Stocksbridge Hoyle House was sold in 1889 by executors of Samuel Newton to John Grayson Lowood, who sold the greater part to Thomas Oxley in 1894. He in turn sold the Garden Village site to Samuel Fox & Company (date uncertain). Building began in 1912, with Sitwell Avenue being completed in 1914. Building work ceased for most of World War I, the work being completed in 1918.
