Description:The new Friendship Hotel was built in 1903 on the site of an earlier one, run by Harriet Battye in 1868-71 and by Elijah Askew in 1881. Tom Batty was the only member of the Local Board not a Farmer and the only one to object to the sale of the towns water rights to the Sheffield Board.
