Joseph Kenworthy Handbooks
The Kenworthy family had lived at Henholmes Farm since at least 1774.
Joseph and his two brothers were born in Manchester and Eccles where their father Benjamin had gone to find work.
The family returned to Deepcar and accepted Parish relief when Benjamin died in 1865.
Members of the Kenworthy family are buried in the Cemetery of St Marys Church at Bolsterstone.
The following photographs show the graves of Benjamin Kenworthy the father of the three brothers.
The second shows the grave of Joseph himself who died on the 10th of December 1929 at the age of 77.
The third photograph shows the grave of the other two other sons, Benjamin and John Cutts Kenworthy.
Benjamin died on the 1st of February 1906 aged 49 and John Cutts died on the 19th of June 1920 aged 65.
Joseph's work as a local historian was extensive and of inestimable value to those in our community who have sought information about past events conected with the area.
Our Archive contains several volumes of his work, some of which have been published and some of which have not.
You can read more about Joseph Kenworthy and his works in this article in the Paragon Newsletter Number 21 published in the autumn of 2000.
